Members of the race have been witnessed at depths of over 3200 meters. As Leviathans are aquatic, it is believed that they can breathe oxygenated water and their bodies can withstand both the extreme pressure of ocean depths and the lesser pressure of coastal areas. The Leviathans' exterior is covered in bony, heavily ridged plates. Several tentacle-like appendages extend below the body and from the sides. Two sets of three eyes are embedded symmetrically on the lower ventral surface of the body. They can be found on the western border of the plateau, the northwestern and southwestern edges of the Hunting Grounds, and directly north of the Floater Spawning Grounds.Like the Reapers that were designed in their likeness, the Leviathans are massive in size and possess a resemblance to Earth cuttlefish or squid. Thermal zones are characterized by an abundance of thermal spires. Juggerpods can commonly be found here.īlood kelp forests are scattered throughout the plateau, with the most notable locations being on the plateau's northern border and directly to the south of the Shell Plains. This region is similar to the Obsidian Sands, albeit rockier in nature. The Ash Banks line the southern border of the plateau, along the Lava River.
Thalassa Colony was unknowingly built within this region, though it was constructed in a relatively safe part of it. Reapers are the least common leviathans here, with most of them being juveniles on their way to the surface. Sea dragons are the apex predators here, and they hunt the other leviathan species found in the region.

This area is full of various leviathans, from ghost leviathans to sea dragons to reapers. The Hunting Grounds are the largest region of the plateau, found next to the Crater Wall. This region is exceptionally dangerous, for obvious reasons. It is a rookery where reapers come to breed every few years, though many juvenile reapers remain here until they are fully mature. The Reaper Nest is a reaper leviathan den found at the northern border of the Lava Lake. This is one of the brightest spots in the Plateau. Few predators are found here, and those that are pose little threat to humans. The area is characterized by the many glowing spawn trees, where floaters are born before they make their way to the surface. The Floater Spawning Grounds are a peaceful region found at the western edge of the Obsidian Sands. There are fast currents in this area that can prove dangerous, as well as predators like pit sharks. Glowing bloom plankton and other microorganisms can be found here, as well as various corals and plants that grow on the rock formations. It has unusual rock formations that form a cathedral-like roof over the trench. The Cathedral Canyon is located at the eastern edge of the Shadow Mesas. Life is more abundant in this region, as many fish feed on the shellgrass. It consists of fields of shellgrass with thermal spires interspersed throughout. The Shell Plains are a fairly large region located on the other side of the Gulf. It is deeper than any other trench in the region and is bridged by sparse rock formations. The Gulf is a deep trench that separates the Graveyard of Emperors from the rest of the plateau. Qur-Aza's sanctuary is located on the edge of this region. It is uncertain why so many skeletons can be found here, and it seems that not all of them died of natural causes. This region is a mass grave of leviathans and other predators. or to become prey.Ī region in the northwestern corner of the plateau, the Graveyard of Emperors lies on a peninsula jutting out into the void. The Shadow Mesas are extremely disorienting and dangerous, and it's easy to become lost. There is almost no light here, save for the occasional snowy branch coral and the spotlight-eyes of the sentinel leviathans that patrol the region.

There are also thermal spires scattered around the lava bodies, and there are small islands in the Lava Lake.įound in the southwestern corner of the plateau, the Shadow Mesas are a series of rock formations and chasms. Various pyrocorals and other lifeforms can be found around the lava due to the warmer temperatures.
It covers much of the center of the plateau.įound in the southern part of the plateau, the Lava River flows from the Lava Lakes inside of the Crater and out to a massive external Lava Lake. This region is very flat and empty, with little life. The second largest biome found on the plateau, the Obsidian Sands region consists of a black desert of volcanic glass. Such biomes include obsidian dunes, thermal spires, lava lakes, and deep trenches. The Volcanic Plateau consists of several distinct zones. It is approximately 1,000 km in diameter. The Volcanic Plateau is a massive rock shelf located off the side of the Crater.
